On December 6, 2022, acting on a proposal from the YSU Academic Council, the Board of Trustees of Yerevan State University established YSU STEM School as a structural unit within the Yerevan State University Foundation.
With the establishment of a general education high school offering STEM (natural sciences and mathematics) and social sciences (humanities) streams, we aim to ensure continuity between school-level and higher education at YSU and extend the university's traditions and culture of research-based education to the general education sector.
YSU STEM School was founded by the Yerevan State University Foundation to promote competitive education in Armenia. Combining YSU's educational traditions spanning more than a century with modern teaching technologies, the school aims to create a learning environment that meets the demands of the 21st century.
Teaching at the school follows the "YSU Schools Network" educational program, developed by YSU academic staff. Armenian is the primary language of instruction, while all students are also expected to have knowledge of English and other foreign languages.
In the STEM stream, Armenian Language, Armenian Literature, Armenian History, Social Studies, Digital Literacy and Computer Science, Art, Preliminary Military Training, Physical Education, and Russian (or another foreign language) are taught according to the state general education curricula. Algebra, Geometry, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English are taught according to specially developed subject curricula included in the "YSU Schools Network" educational program.
In the social sciences (humanities) stream, Armenian Language and English are taught according to specially developed subject curricula included in the "YSU Schools Network" educational program. Armenian Literature, Armenian History, World History, Social Studies, Digital Literacy and Computer Science, Art, Preliminary Military Training, Physical Education, Algebra, Geometry, Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), and Russian (or another foreign language) are taught according to the state general education curricula.
The school operates five days a week, with six or seven 45-minute lessons per day.
In Grade 10, students study only compulsory general education subjects, which help strengthen their foundational knowledge and develop new competencies.
At the end of Grade 10, students select at least two subjects from the specialized study programs to pursue alongside their compulsory subjects over the following two years, preparing them for university admission in their chosen fields.
Students have access to YSU's facilities and technical resources, including laboratories, sports halls and the library. They also have opportunities to learn about and participate in research conducted by YSU academic staff and students, as well as to carry out various projects and scientific experiments under the supervision of university researchers.
At the end of each academic year, students take progression or graduation examinations, depending on their grade. The format and type of examination depend on the subject. To advance to the next grade, students must achieve at least 50% of the maximum possible score in each examination.
YSU STEM School charges tuition fees. The annual tuition fee for the 2026–2027 academic year is AMD 1,000,000.
The school offers extracurricular clubs, including subject-specific Olympiad clubs, as well as cultural and sports clubs based on students' interests.
Participation in all clubs is free of charge.
Upon completing their studies, YSU STEM School students receive the following documents:
A state-standard certificate of secondary education (attestat), issued in accordance with the relevant state regulations.
A graduation certificate (diploma) for completing the "YSU Schools Network" educational program.
