YSU STEM School was founded by Yerevan State University Foundation to promote competitive education in Armenia. Paralleling YSU's more than a century-old educational tradition with modern learning technologies, YSU STEM School aims to create an educational environment in line with the imperatives of the 21st century.
A special program “Network of YSU Schools” developed by YSU professors, organizes teaching in the high school. The main teaching language is Armenian. At the same time, all students are expected to speak English and other languages.
The Armenian Language, Armenian Literature, Armenian History, World History, Social Science, Digital Literacy and Computer Science, Art, Preliminary Military Readiness, and Physical Education are taught using the general education curriculum, while the subject programs included in the educational program “YSU School Network” teaches Algebra, Geometry, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.
YSU STEM School is an open system with a common admission process. To ensure equal access, YSU offers partial tuition reimbursement based on need.
The academic week at the school is 6 days, each day with 6-8 academic hours (one academic hour is defined as 45 minutes).
The students have an opportunity to take preparation courses and do project-research work after their basic classes.
In the 10th grade, the student studies only compulsory subjects (general education), which contribute to the strengthening of basic knowledge and the acquisition of new abilities.
At the end of the 10th grade, the student chooses at least two subjects from the advanced educational programs of Science, Technology, Engineering subjects, and Mathematics (STEM) to study in the following two years and to prepare for admission to the university of his/her choice.
The YSU STEM School students have access to YSU infrastructures, materials, and technical equipment (laboratories, gyms, and the library). They also have an opportunity to be acquainted with and participate in research conducted by YSU professors and students, as well as to carry out various projects and scientific experiments under the supervision of university scientists.
