The first-ever Open International Biology Olympiad was held at Sirius Educational Center in the Russian Federation, with 75 students from 15 countries participating.
The Armenian team, which represented the country at the Olympiad from May 10-17, was composed of 10th-grade student Sara Hakobyan (YSMU Heratsi High School), 11th-grade students Levon Hayrapetyan (YSMU Heratsi High School), Anahit Hunoyan and Babik Sarkisyan (MoESCS Photon College), Milena Hayrapetyan (YSU STEM High School), and Lilia Karapetyan (Yerevan School No. 184). The team was led by Ruzanna Adamyan, a researcher at YSU Faculty of Biology.
The Olympiad consisted of theoretical and practical (individual), as well as project-based (team) phases. Bronze medals were awarded to Sara Hakobyan, Anahit Hunoyan, Milena Hayrapetyan, and Lilia Karapetyan.
The goal of the International Biology Olympiad was to engage school students in the study and solution of current biological and biotechnological issues, as well as to foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants.
